I continually laugh at the things I’ve done in my life. Some I will never share with anyone on this earth, of course.

But this morning, I remembered a fun thing we did to my one time friend Buckwheat’s girlfriend, Denise. Suffice it to say she was not the lightest bulb in the lamp. So I just couldn’t resist having some fun with her.

She met us at a tavern for some beers. She told us right up front that she had to leave at 11, and Buckwheat would have to leave with her. I didn’t want to cut the party short. Last call wasn’t until 1:30 and I wasn’t about to let her go before that.

But how to do it. Then it dawned on me. I conspired with the others at the table and the plan was hatched. When she went to the bathroom the first time, we sprang into action. We all set our watches back 1/2 hour. When she returned, she asked what time it was. 8:30 we told her, knowing it was really 9. Every time she went to the bathroom, we’d set out clocks back again. By now she was drunk enough not to notice that 30 minutes had passed, even though we told her it had been 10 minutes.

Finally, 11 p.m. came, just as the lights flashed in the bar and the Last Call went out from the bartender. Still not getting it, she just figured they were closing early that night.

Of course, it’s almost impossible to do these days, since every cell phone tells time. But it was so easy to do back in the day. 🙂
